Time is a tricky thing. There's not always enough of it to kill everyone -
sometimes the guard are on their way and you've gotta get out quickly. There
are also times when you'd quite like to take out that warmage but their
bodyguard just won't get out of the way.
On these occasions the rogue toolkit provides the humble 'sap'. Not quite as
tricky a technique as the more comprehensive 'Knock out', this shares its
non-lethal intent. Sneaking up on your victim, a sharp blow to the back of the
head sends them reeling, unable to focus or concentrate on what's going on -
taking them out of the fight for a significant length of time.
It should be noted this trick has its limits. First and most importantly, any
direct attack on the target, whether physical or magical, will jolt them out of
their dazed state. Secondly, for reasons not fully understood, the target will
heal rapidly whilst dazed.
Talented assassins can also use a variant of this attack to daze their
opponents briefly in combat, interrupting spellcasting.
