Experiments to perfect the smokebomb trick didn't alway go entirely to plan. A particular combination of fungus used by Amathus in one attempt produced very little obscuring smoke and rather a lot of noxious gas. The effects cleared the guild hall, and most of the customers from Radagast's Gambling Emporium out for several days. After a little more (very careful) experimentation it was discovered that the gas not only smelled terrible but also slowed down the reactions of the victim, and that combining the ingredients in a smaller dosage would create a shorter lived effect localised to just the one room.
