Bowying
A Ranger knows that combat takes many forms, and that while standing toe to toe and the melee are often what such fights come down to, it is infinitely preferable to take out a foe before he can even get close to you. This principle is, of course, that used in hunting, so it is no wonder that a Ranger understands this better than most.

While others have to purchase their weapons from specialists, when it comes to the bow, each and every Ranger IS just such a specialist. No Ranger need ever worry about being without his or her bow, as one can be easily fashioned as needed.

It requires a number of components to make a bow, but so long as he or she remembers to pick up a bow string from the clearing before leaving, it shouldn't be difficult to find the other components in any woodland. This, when combined with the fletching ability, means that a proficient bowyer need never worry about running out of either arrows, or the bow needed to fire them.

There are four bows that can be crafted at the moment, which are listed below:

Crafted Bows
Bow Name Crafting Skill Power Strength
Short Bow 65 Fair 10
Long Bow 80 Average 13
Composite Long Bow 35 Good 16
Recurved Bow 115 Very Good 20

Each bow has a minimum skill required to make it ('skill'), so as a Ranger improves his or her skills, so too does their ability to craft more powerful weapons. See also help bowyer.

Because such bows are so powerfully strung, they can not be shot by anyone - only a Ranger could hope to use such a bow, and even then, only one who is strong enough to draw it back.

Combined together, the Ranger abilities at bowying, fletching, foraging and hunting mean that they need never rely on 'civilization', and can spend years at a time in the wilds.
