Auria offers this miracle as a lower level version of Resurrect. While the latter can recall the soul long after it has departed, and can encase it in new flesh, the less powerful revive command can only bring back those who are hovering on the brink of starting their journey to the Outer Planes, as once the corpse has decayed, the ghost is beyond the help of anything but a full resurrection. The 'preservation' miracle is often used to try and delay the corpses inexorable decay, and thus give a more powerful Cleric time to reach the deceased.
