It is the common practice of a reasonably skilled acolyte to channel small amounts of chi to help speed regeneration of various injuries. It was on a fateful night that one particularly unlucky monk happened to injure himself more than just a tad, and with no nearby brethren to aid him, he was left to tend himself or perish.

Well in his moment of desperation, this acolyte decided to try and use this minor healing technique on a much greater scale! Mustering his strength, the monk channeled the energy through the chakras nearest his hands, funneling healing energy into his wound! The effect was immediate, not only recycling the energy to restore his health, but purged the rising infection and sealed flesh as well.
