Arrows
Arrows
That Rangers are adept at fletching is well known to all, but what is rather
less well known is that they are able to make many unique types of arrows,
found nowhere else in the Realms. There are seven basic types of arrow that
a Ranger can make:
- Normal (Projectile 25)
A normal arrow is just that - normal! It does though have a razor sharp tip, and has grooves cut into its shaft causing it to spin in flight, meaning that overall this arrow does rather more than 'normal' damage!
- Bodkin (Projectile 35)
This arrow has a very thin, pointed head that is ideally suited to punching through armour and puncturing the defences of the target. While a more normal 'leaf-headed' arrow will do more damage against lightly armoured foes, this arrow will not be stopped by any form of non-magical armour, and so is lethal against heavily armoured targets.
- Flaming (Projectile 45)
A flaming arrow is coated with a special magical compound that causes it to ignite as soon as it leaves the bow. Woe be to anything struck by such an arrow that is particually vulnerable to fire or heat!
- Bull-Tipped (Projectile 55)
The bull-tipped arrow has a large, heavy ball instead of a sharpened point as a head! While this would seem at first to be insane, due to the pure skill of Rangers in the way of archery, they are still able to wing these arrows towards their foes with great accuracy. The question then becomes why! Well, while these arrows can do virtually no damage to heavily armoured targets, they managed to pack enough force to deal a nasty blow to unarmoured foes - more so than would a normal arrow. In addition, a hit to the head or torso has a fairly good chance of stunning the target for a few rounds, leaving them defenceless, virtually impossible to miss in combat, and unable to take any action at all!
- Frost (Projectile 65)
A frost arrow uses the same compound as that used for the flaming arrows. After a good deal of research some of the rangers in the far off land of Rathowen discovered that by making some subtle alterations the arrow would freeze over rather than igniting as it left the bow. These arrows would prove to be very useful against any creatures that are particularly vulnerable to ice or cold.
- Poison (Projectile 100)
A poison arrow is based upon the 'Normal' ranger arrow, however the razor sharp tip is coated with natural poisons. The thick poison adds to the weight of the arrow head and therefore a high level of skill is needed to shoot these poison arrows. Only rangers with sufficient skill to make poison arrows will be able to use them effectively.
- Silver (Projectile 125)
A silver arrow is based upon the 'Normal' ranger arrow, however the razor sharp tip is plated with silver by melting silver coins from the ranger's purse. As with poison arrows, the silver tip significantly adds to the weight of the arrow head and therefore a high level of skill is needed to shoot these arrows with any degree of accuracy. Note: 150 silver coins are needed to make silver arrows. Only rangers with sufficient skill to make silver arrows will be able to use them effectively.
Rumour has it that other arrows are in development, but when these may see the light of day is as yet unknown.
