Enhanced Awareness
For ages, the enduring monk has been the easy prey of sneaky rogues and bandits alike. Over time, certain monks became repeat targets of such sneaky assaults, setting into action a chain of events that would shape future generations. These persecuted monks toiled day and night, training their bodies to respond to even the slightest hostility. The result was a new ability that allowed a monk to catch an attacker in the act, deflecting their initial blows, and reducing physical damage inflicted by considerable amounts.

This ability came at a cost, however. Even the most studious and talented of monks could only keep their vigilance constant for a short period of time, but with practice the duration could be improved.
