Heartstones

Heartstones are incredibly rare and extremely valuable forms of Rubies that are much prized by Necromancers. Whether they are naturally occuring or created by magic is unknown, but they seem to only ever be found on the most powerful and Holy guardians of the Realms.

Heartstones are so called because they have a slight deformation which makes them resemble human hearts, albeit only slightly. However for Necromancers there is a secondry connection as they have learnt how to use these gems as a recepticle of a most unique form of energy - see the Soulbind ritual for more details.

Once a Heartstone has been found (ideally being looted from the corpse of some vanquished champion of the sickening force of Righteousness), it must be suitably prepared before it can be used for the Soulbind ritual. Activation is simple but requires the Necromancer to travel to Drakenwood and there to descend deep into the sewers below town. Once there, they must seek out the pool of Blood that forms a part of the Chaos Worshipper temple and finally plunge the heartstone into the blood.

Now the Heartstone will be ready and the tears of the innocent will fall like rain....

A Heartstone may only be used by the Necromancer who activated it, but until this point they may be given to, or taken from the lifeless corpse of, others.

Should the Necromancer tire of playing with the captive soul trapped within via the Soulbind ritual, they may shatter the heartstone to destroy it and free the soul.
