Permanent abilities
Permanent Abilities
What is a permanent ability?
Exactly how it sounds. A monk can learn to use an ability that stays running
forever! Or at least until they turn it off. The flip side of this is that a
permanent 'tap' is taken out of the maximum mana pool for that monk, so long
as the ability is active.
How exactly does this work?
Well, there are some abilities that worked best as positive reinforcement items
in the monk's day-to-day killing life. For example, the new ability 'Focus'
buffs the monk's passive regeneration rate for a select pool, such as
hp, mp, or sp. They could let this run for a short amount of time, but
it gets better results if allowed to sit in the background and do its thing
until combat happens.
There looks to be a number of permanent abilities.
How exactly is this balanced?
Each permanent ability activated takes a percentage of the monk's mana
completely off the table. While the percent is not huge, it adds up when
multiple permanent abilities are running.
In addition to this limit, each permanent ability is very focused. Some will be best used in specific types of combat, or simply when not in combat. The tap effect is intended to balance the overall moment-to-moment play, and a monk may find themself choosing to use less buffs in order to have more mp free for combat.
