Destin's Death Shroud
Many a high level mage is seen enveloped in this protective shroud of darkness, for the power gained is great. The death shroud helps protect against attack as would a clerical shield but in a rather different way. Instead of merely negating the damage, it reflects some of it back upon the one inflicting it, leaving only a reduced amount to affect the mage. However, a mage should understand the workings of the shroud well, because it has two important drawbacks. The first is that because it reverses damage, healing also works in REVERSE while shrouded; that is, cures HARM you. Secondly, against magical attacks the shroud's absorption of the incoming energy causes it to flare violently, inflicting horrible burns, far in excess of the potential damage of the absorbed spell.
